Infiltration and Espionage Equipment – Much of a Rebel’s work is necessarily carried out in the shadows. The Alliance simply does not have the resources or personnel to face off head-to-head against the powerful war machine of the Galactic Empire, so to bring about the change they desire and to spread freedom throughout the galaxy, many Rebels wage a shadow war against the Empire. While spying, targeted assassinations, industrial espionage, sabotage, commerce raiding, and other violent and disruptive acts may have a reputation as cowardly and dishonorable among some, these tactics are extremely effective in the kind of guerrilla warfare being waged by the Alliance. Clandestine Rebel operatives use a number of specialized pieces of equipment to help them carry out their quiet attacks on Imperial infrastructure.
From Age of Rebellion
Restraining bolts are to droids what binders are to sentient creatures. Using magnetic clamps or chemical adhesives, restraining bolts attach to a droid’s chassis and are used to restrict its actions, usually by means of a remote control. The most basic restraining bolts simply shut down a droid, allowing the user to bypass droid guards and incapacitate any droid witnesses. More advanced systems can be used to make a droid perform any action commanded by the person holding the restraining bolt controller.
From Edge of the Empire
Restraining bolts serve the same function on droids as restraints do on other sentients. Once affixed to a droid, the bolts can override their programming. The simplest setting shuts the droid down, but restraining bolts can also force droids to perform any actions they are commanded to do by the person holding the restraining bolt controller. Standard restraining bolts are produced by the billions by companies like Industrial Automation.
Most droids cannot resist restraining bolts when one is attached to them (a process that requires a few seconds and a spot-welder). However, any Player Character who happens to be a droid is obviously made of sterner stuff than NPC droids.
