Medical Equipment – The life of a member of the Alliance is a necessarily dangerous one. Fighting the tyranny of the Galactic Empire, with its powerful armed forces and dangerous web of intelligence agents, informants, and spies, can have deadly consequences for even the most vigilant Rebel operative. Good and immediate medical care is key to any operation, whether in the form of a simple medpac, a total-immersion bacta tank, or a well-equipped medical frigate. The availability of such care, or lack thereof, has turned the tide of more than one Rebel operation.

An ancient healing technology, bacta is nothing less than miraculous. Developed thousands of years ago, it is a viscous, clear liquid within which live millions of genetically-altered and synthetic bacteria. Usable on nearly every species in the galaxy, bacta drastically increases the rate of healing and cures even the most grievous wounds with little-to-no scarring. Typically, patients are completely immersed in large bacta tanks where they stay suspended in the thick liquid while hooked up to life support systems. This takes quite a bit of infrastructure, and bacta tanks are relatively rare outside of large medical facilities and dedicated medical vessels. However, bacta can be administered by injection or by pre-treated patches, and is included in one form or another inside every medpac sold in the galaxy.

Bacta is a liquid used for healing, made of an artificially grown bacteria developed thousands of years ago. It is nothing short of miraculous, working on a wide variety of species and healing terrible wounds with little or no scarring. It is commonly used in large tanks for total immersion, but can also be administered in pre-treated patches, injection, portable pouches, and even through direct consumption. While full-size bacta tanks are rare outside of major installations, some ships often have portable tanks, and most medpacs and field kits have bacta patches.
