Blog Introduction – Who Am I?

Blog of The Dark Elf 007

Who Am I and what do I want to talk about?

I am a gamer, who has been running D&D campaigns since i was 11 in first year of high school back in 1987. I post weekly, run six games a fortnight and have run many systems.

I run games with a disability, though I try not to let it define me. I play in games when I can but enjoy working on my campaigns between sessions when i have time. This blog site is a growth of that between session work I have done over the last 30 years.

1,000 Consecutive Game Sessions

Wednesday November 13th 2019 I racked up my 1,000th game session since I started running games again.

Back in 2007 I was bullied into “letting others” run games by some vocal players at the time. Then I had only run about 500 games over 20 years.

It has been 10 years since I started GM’ing again, and with the occasional stumble and bad session it has mostly being a positive experience.

I now run three games a week, with six separate campaigns running fortnightly. There is a little overlap, but it is six different game groups, each with their own feel and style.

Over a year ago I started writing blogs about my games, what I am running, and what I am intending to run. I have a back log of games to write about, and a bunch of ideas and concepts I am working through that as long as my hands hold up I will continue to write. I have started to get a following on my blog site, and reached a lofty height of double digits. Though in the three months since I brought all the site management into my own blog I have had more traffic than all the previous places I had them.

This year I started to make video blogs of my games, though to find them you need to be in one of my games (or ask nicely).
I now expect to have about 150 games a year, with 25 for each gaming group.

Up next I am in the process of doing video blogs for board games and will start posting those by the end of the year.

Posting and writing about my games has been an enjoyable experience that has enhanced my gameplay, and while it continues to help, I will continue to run games and write more about them.

Weekly vs Daily Posts Planned

I have been writing weekly posts for over a year now and feel that it is quite the accomplishment. I decided last year (2018) before going to PAX AU that I would endeavour to write a post a week for over a year and see how well I enjoy it, and if it is something that I think I would keep doing. I have managed to get posts up about my Dungeons and Dragons campaigns in the Mystara setting, about my Shadowrun campaign (many more to go), my Star Wars campaigns and a starting to do my pathfinder campaigns. I still have a lot to say about games that I have run, so I will attempt another year and review. Hoping that I can get another 52 weeks of posts behind me.

Writing weekly is something I can sustain at this stage, I could write more often, as I can usually have 2-3 posts ready to go, but I can’t do it consistently. Keeping the regular posting schedule as allowed me a timeframe I believe I can manage.

Once my games ended in December 2019 I have taken on writing daily posts about small improvements to the game so I don’t have as large an article to write, but it comes out more often.

I am releasing content on D&D Races, Magic Items, Downtime, Secret Crafts and Weapons Mastery. I am also doing a Pathfinder 2 converted Items from the Jade Regent Adventure Path, and the last article is dependant on what I have finished up over that week so it is basically my feature article for the week.

Running six games a fortnight

I have been converting my games from 6 different systems and settings down to two. I have one D&D setting running three different games, here is the setup for two pathfinder games, and I have a third pathfinder game still running through the jade regent. By this time they may have caught a dragon for their witch’s familiar. That might be the last game to go over to pathfinder 2 as in October 2019 the playtest material for a witch and a few other classes comes our way and it might be a good time to switch them over.

I am also looking to start a new Pathfinder 2 adventure path, and to start video recordings of my game sessions with intention to push them to a person youTube channel. This is now happening, so you can see the links in the RPG Game Sessions part of the menu above and the Game Journal link at the bottom. They are literally the journal of events from the games available to all my players and anyone else who might want to watch them,

Video Recording and Publishing

As part of my desire to improve and expand my skills, I planned to start making video recordings of the game sessions and posting those to youTube in my own channel. Videos of my games are now public and should be searchable on the link below of looking for my channel under thedarkelf007.

After attending PAX AU in 2019, I was inspired to set up recording sessions for my ongoing tabletop campaigns. I have audio recordings of past campaigns, but they were never intended to be published without cleaning them up. These sessions are raw recordings from the night with intend to eventually stream them. https://www.youtube.com/user/thedarkelf007/featured

I am a long term gamer, I run 6 RPG's a fortnight, host board game, card game and LANs each about once a quarter and have an addiction to buying more games. Games I am currently running are Pathfinder (1st and 2nd Edition) and Dungeons and Dragons (5th Edition).
