Pathfinder 2 – Adventures

Rescue of Ameiko

Thassilonian Resurgence
4709 P1 (Level 3)

Overview

This uses events from Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition Chapter 1 – Burnt Offerings. The settlement of Sandpoint is having a festival when goblins attack and they are forced to help defend the village.

Using content from: Part 4 – Thistletop.

Part 4 – Thistletop – The ancient site known as Thistletop has long served as a den for goblins. Today, it serves as something more – the lair of a band of outlaws led by Nualia, knaves and criminals who have recruited the goblins as their instruments of destruction. In order to save Sandpoint from these goblins, a journey to Thistletop must eventually be undertaken – but the lost coast’s new heroes should take care to ensure they are prepared for this stage of the adventure. Goblins are the least of the dangers that lurk in and below Thistletop -for the site was one of many used for the worship of the runelord Karzoug in his war against his enemies to the west.

How did I modify it to my TRAP campaign?

With a slight modification to the section above to incorporate the Runelords as gods from the start of the story (instead of the end) they were asked to help Ameiko’s friend Shalalu to go to Thistletop and save her friend.

I migrated the goblin tribes of the region to Thistletop as part of the storyline, so it was not just one tribe but all of them summoned by the spirit of Thistletop

How my players fared

.The group used the connection to the goblin tribes to gain passage to the rock where they encounter the goblin king and send him on to Sandpoint to attack in the name of the bleached gnome and fight Nualia and her friends only to be outclassed and captured by their teamwork. They later broke free and murdered their captors showing much vengeance and a gaining the interest of the Runelords, so the Gods of Sin now have found some potential new recruits.

They chose to save the captured people of Sandpoint and not explore the reason they were there. This gained them the appreciation of the survivors, as well as friendship from Shalalu weighed against the chance to find out what was really happening.

Total time to complete

  • Group B (Friday) – 5 sessions

Concluding Thoughts

By taking the path of vengeance in a horror storyline, the group has taken a step over the line and are no longer the heroes of the piece. A part of the heroic storyline is forever lost as bloody vengeance now rules their destiny as they have become a catalyst of sin, instead of the virtue to fight against it. How much further can they fall before becoming truly evil and ending the campaign for them, only time will tell.

I did not mind the evil acts the party chose to take, but it cost them information, and reputation. This is a story of consequences, both good and bad. There are a lot of significant choices having been made by the group, and eventually some of those will haunt them, or save them. What was a good or bad choice at the time might be something else long term. The NPCs in the story are not the GM’s views, so be aware that someone that reprimands or congratulates is not always what it seems.

I am a long term gamer, I run 6 RPG's a fortnight, host board game, card game and LANs each about once a quarter and have an addiction to buying more games. Games I am currently running are Pathfinder (1st and 2nd Edition) and Dungeons and Dragons (5th Edition).
