Overview

For this adventure I am Using Curse of the Crimson Throne Anniversary Edition – Chapter 1 – Edge of Anarchy, Part 1 – Haunted Fortunes.

Part 1 – Haunted Fortunes – Curse of the Crimson Throne provides the PCs with a shared nemesis from the start: local crime lord Gaedren Lamm. The introduction to this book presents campaign traits that your players should choose for their characters – these traits grant small bonuses to their stats and give the PCs an in-game reason to ally. Each PC has been wronged by Gaedren Lamm, so each PC should have a built-in reason to reply to the mysterious harrow card that appears in his or her life as this chapter begins.

How did I modify it to my TRAP campaign?

I changed Zellara to only be friends with the characters who came from Korvosa and modified the storyline to make it a personal story for their characters. They inherit her place upon discovering her body and that of her son and gain a harrow deck that they can use to see a possible future ahead.

How my players fared

They took this storyline very well, managed to fall in the water with the shark and still took down Gaedren Lamm ridding the group of one of another childhood bully as they did in Magnimar in the previous adventure. They then return home to Magnimar for the close out of the game year and gain a level. One of the characters gains stewardship of another characters house, though at the time he did not know who was the previous owner. They activate the transfer station under the new property.

Concluding Thoughts

Making this part of the story a very personal storyline worked well and help integrate changing players into the storyline better. This included a player not paying attention to the loot from the last adventure and giving over a kings ransom for sex and gaining more than he had bargained for. It also became the bases for the Pimwinkle High Priest of Lust storyline later in the game.
