The town of Ilsurian has a legendary Umbra Carnival arrive as the party reaches the city. A bunch of murders in the carnival and town need their assistance to be solved without further bloodshed.
How did I modify it to my TRAP campaign?
This was done as a side quest while the party was assigned to go to Kaer Maga as a quest from the Church of Pharasma. As they stop for the night, they are approached by the Major for help, party due to their NPC travelling companions having sway in the region.
During the storyline I introduced one of the players background family members as part of the storyline, and brought in Hellknights starting out as enforcers of Korvosa working to bring further settlements under the sway of the King and investigate rumours of the gods of sin awakening. This was an early introduction to one of the side storylines planned out as interactable events that the party could have ditched and moved on.
How my players fared
Choosing to help the settlement the party managed to solve the murders, gain the respect of the villages, get a positive interaction with the Hellknights, save those varisian and shoanti people who wanted to get away from Cheliax authority

The investigation went well, was a success, and the subplots worked well being introduced. One plot involving the Halfling sister of Pimwinkle (PC) and the other being the expansion of Hellknight influence and Korvosa to Ilsurian.
