This year I have chosen to embark on a new adventure, a bunch of one-off scenarios all using the Fate Acellerated system as its core, but pinching from many settings and genre. All in the name of new year’s comedy.

Concept

It is Christmas time and I have a pile of One-Shot games that will be available based on interest.There are rules in these games, but it will be very light, no real knowledge needed, but knowing the setting or genre will be an advantage. At the core all the games will be based on comedy and fun, more than horror and realism.

These game will only run depending on interest and availability over the end of year period. 19th December to 10th January as a break from my normal campaigns. Here are the starting concepts.

Storyline

The one of sessions are moments in time all about the characters and will be using the FATE Accelerated rules to build the game. You will have between one and five encounters in each story that define the start of the story, the meaning of the story, and the conclusion of the story.

The game is the interactions with the Characters, the environment is only yhe backdrop with the NPCs only being a bit part for the storyline.

Goblins Save Christmas (Pathfinder Setting)

A story about how a group of goblins in Magnimar have to work together to save winters festival…

Your a band of sisters (or brothers) who have learned of a plot to discredit goblins in the eyes of Magnimar after your have just been declared citizens. You will be starting the game on the rooftops with a brief introduction of how you got there, and what your overall object is.

Characters

Each character will be based around specific statements vital to the character. On each session, the characters will have the following:

  • Each character will be made up as a series of statements defining their role in the story.
  • Each player will be able to define part of the storyline based on completing the statements provided for their character.
  • Each character will have a defined goal.
  • Each character will have secret information (meant to be used during session)

At thiss stage I am expecting 2-6 characters in any of the storylines, and I will be writing them up from my head over the next two weeks in preparation for christmas as a reward to myself for a year of running many complex campaigns.

Design Progress

Characters are broken up into the following categories:

High Concept

Each of the characters will choose one of the following high concepts, these represent the basic interest of your character. You will be able to define it further on the night, but references to one of the characters in the notes will use these base concepts:

  • The Firebug – Your favorite past time is to set things alight and watch it burn. Your high concept incorporates setting things on fire. “Burn it” is one of your key words.
    • Flashy +3, Forceful and Quick +2, Clever and Sneaky +1, Careful +0
  • The Butcher – Your favorite pastime is to stab and cut things. Your high concept incorporates using your knives. “Stab it” is one of your key words.
    • Quick +3, Forceful and Sneaky +2, Flashy and Clever +1, Careful +0
  • The Sneak – Your farorite pastime is to sneak up to people and scare them. Your high concept incorporates steath. “Sneaky Sneak” is one of your key words.
    • Sneaky +3, Quick and Clever +2, Forceful and Flashy +1, Careful +0
  • The Empty Belly – Your favorite pastime is to eat (or try to eat) everything you can see. Your high concept incroproates your ability to eat anything. “Eat it” is one of your key words.
    • Forceful +3, Flashy and Clever +2, Sneaky and Quick +1, Careful +0
  • The Angry One – You favorite pastime is to break things. Your high concept incorporates your anger. “Break it” is one of your key words.
    • Forceful +3, Flashy and Quick +2, Clever and Sneaky +1, Careful +0

Each of these will also come with a notes section that is unique to your character for use in the game. It will include one objective and one secret.

Trouble

Each character starts with trouble, that will cause issues during the game. The options for this game are:

  • Who is Clumsy – You have a knack for your lack of coordination. Your trouble incorporates being clumsy. “Wasn’t me” is one of your key phrases.
  • Who is Loud – You have a knack for noise. Your trouble incorporates being noisy. “You be Quiet” is one of you key phrases.
  • Who is Smelly – You have a knack for smells, especially your own. Your trouble incorporates your smell. “Pull my finger” is one of your key phrases.
  • Who is Sleepy – You have a knack for sleeping anywhere. Your trouble incorporats your ability to sleep. “Yawn, five more minutes” is one of your key phrases.
  • Who is Grumpy – You have a knack for arguing anything. Your trouble incirporates your grumpiness towards the other characters. “Why should I” is one of your key phrases.

Each of these will also come with a notes section that is unique to your character for use in the game. It will include one objective and one secret.

Aspect

These are the traits that will allow your character to work within the storyline of the scenario. Each of you will get one of these aspects.

  • Music is my Life – Your are a bard, and your style incorporates your high concept.
  • Magic is my Life – You are a practicioner of the arcane magic and your style incorporates your high concept.
  • Religion is my Life – You are a servant of a higher power, and your style incorporates your high concept.
  • Nature is my Life – You are a devote of nature and incorporate your style with your high concept.
  • Might is my Life – You incorporate your physical prowess with your high concept.

Each of these will also come with a notes section that is unique to your character for use in the game. It will include one objective and one secret.

Objectives

Objectives are secret outcomes of the storyline that you want to achieve as part of the gameplay. Players only know their own objectives and reveal them at the end of the game to show how well they were true to their character.

Secrets

Secrets are story elements that you can only reveal at the end of the game. These are things that your character knows, and influence their decisions for the game

Key Words or Phrases

Using a Key word or Phase as part of your action description will give you a bonus to the result.
