Adventures AC 1001 – Relic Hunter – Dendan Oil

This adventure was originally part of the Basic Adventures section of Gazetteer 2 – The Emirates of Ylaruam which I modified and one of the changes to be investigated as part of the Wrath of the Immortals storyline.

The Original Concept
The dendan is a great fish that lives in the sea off the Emirates’ coast. Legend says that this fish may be slain by a shout from a human. This legend is false. The oil of this fish is as a potion of water breathing, and is a treasure much-valued by those who would emulate Al-Kalim’s pilgrimage to the Old Man of the Sea.
Staging: The magical powers of dendan oil are common knowledge among storytellers and alchemists. Dendan (whales) are occasionally sighted by seamen, but only the northmen hunt these leviathans which crush ships with a flip of their tails. Arrows and lances mean little to these sea monsters, but a doughty crew and shrewd adventurers might be able to capture or kill a dendan by sorcerous means.
- Adventure Level: 1-3, Basic (converts to 1 to 5)
- Topic: Magical Treasure that is different every year.
- Interesting Features: A treasure that helps you breathe underwater.
- Campaign Hook: A chance to delve into the history of the hero.
Note: See Ylaruam Adventures relating to Relic Hunter details. I intend for this item to be linked to other locations and adventures at various level, so gaining the item is not the end of the storyline. The item will also have other abilities once it enters play.
Not run as part of the campaign.
Can be run anywhere in the first five years of the campaign from year One to Year Five, and can be adapted to run at other levels as an ongoing adventure option.
