Dungeons and Dragons – Mystara
Ranks and Titles – Count or Countess

Count – When Awarded
Person with ducal title are addressed as “Count (Name)” or “Countess (Name)” or “Your Grace.”
Count – How to Gain
- To become a Count, the character must be a Baron for five years.
- He must have remained faithful to the ruler and ruled well (no abuse of the peasants he rules, no catastrophic failure of the local economy as a result of his misrule, etc.)
Count – Ceremony of Attainment
Count – Spouse Title
The spouse of a Count is a Countess; the spouse of a Countess is a Count. The children of a Count or Countess are Court Lords and Ladies from birth.
Count – Heir Rights
The heir of a county must be confirmed in the rank of Count by the Rulers when his parents die or step down from rulership; if the Ruler confirms the title, the heir becomes the new Count; if the Ruler does not, the heir becomes a Landed Lord (and a very unhappy one).
Counts in Karameikos
The Rulers: Royal Family of Karameikos.
This noble rank is greater than a baron but less than a Duke. Because Karameikos is so small in population, and has only four baronies (so far), the Duke has not yet instituted the rank of Count. When more of the nation is colonized and there are many baronies present, he will begin elevating the more prominent Baronies.
