The Dragonkind

The dragons of Mystara are elemental creature far grander than those of the Monster Manual.

  • Attributes – Dragonkind Traits
    • Elemental Affinity
      • Air – Chromatic White – Metallic Silver – Gemstone Crystal
      • Darkness – Chromatic Black – Metallic Brass – Gemstone Onyx
      • Earth – Chromatic Green – Metallic Copper – Gemstone Emerald
      • Fire – Chromatic Red – Metallic Gold – Gemstone Amber or Ruby
      • Water – Chromatic Blue – Metallic Bronze – Gemstone Sapphire
    • Evolutions: Three known evolutions of dragons Chromatic, Metallic and Gemstone each with variations within.
      • Chromatic (First Evolution) Most common variation of the dragon found around the world. They immortal they honour is Pearl.
        • Luck of Chaos: Once per long rest you can reroll one d20 roll, even after finding out the result of the roll and keeping the new roll even if its worse.
      • Metallic (Second Evolution) Least common of the varieties known. The immortal they honour is Diamond.
        • Luck of Order: Once per long rest you can roll the result twice on any d20 roll and take the best result before you know the result.
        • Breath Evolved: Your breath weapon also causes a status effect.
      • Gemstone (Third Evolution) These have not been encountered in the story yet. They are rumoured to honour Opal.
        • Nature’s Balance: Once per long rest you can select to become resistant to Bludgeoning, Piercing or Slashing damage from non-magical weapons. You then select one of the remaining damage types to become a weakness.
        • Breath of Magic: Your breath weapon also causes a magical effect.
      • Elementals (Fourth Evolution)
      • Cosmos (Fifth Evolution)
    • Dragonkind Feats: Dragon Fear, Dragon Hide, Dragonborn Evolution, Dragonkind Evolution

Mystara never featured the dragonborn, so as a way of bringing them into the game there are a few changes for those who wish to play them.

The name dragonborn comes from how the are spawned from the dragon they are tied to. This translates to Born of the Dragon. So a Redborn means born of a Red Dragon. More details will be made available through the Dragon Hatchery when it is released.

  • Firstly all character can’t be older than their character level plus one.
  • Next, talk of dragon heritage, politics and dominions are forbidden when away from the dragonlands.
  • They are an expansion of the dragonkind, gaining element and damage types from them.

Types of Dragonborn:

Dragonborn Traits:

  • Ability Score Increase: Strength +1
  • Age: Young Adult at 2, Adult at 5, lifespan is unknown
  • Size: 6 ft young adult, 7 ft adult, 250 pounds, Medium size
  • Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 ft
  • Servitor: You are tied to your clutch, you live while it lives, you die if it dies. You know its mood if you are within 24 miles, you know its direction within 8 miles and can hear its thoughts directed at the clutch within 1 mile.
  • Breath Weapon: You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape. and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw. the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier +your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save. and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level. 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest
  • Languages: You can speak, read, write Common (Thyatian and  Alphatian) and Draconic
  • Evolutions: there are currently core evolutions of dragonborn, Guardian, Scout and Champion. There are two other dragonborn evolutions yet to be discovered, Sage and the last one is still to come.
    • Guardian (First Evolution) – Based on Players Handbook
      • Ability Score Increase: Strength +1, Charisma +1
      • Tailless: These dragonborn have no tail
      • Damage Resistance: you have resistance to non-magical slashing damage
      • Age: Oldest Guardian was born in AC 995
    • Scout (Second Evolution) – Tal’dori Campaign Sourcebook
      • Ability Score Increase: Constitution +1, Wisdom +1
      • Tails: These characters have a tail and as a bonus action can make a melee tail attack. They also gain 6″ of height.
      • Speed: Your base walking speed is 35 ft
      • Damage Resistance: you have resistance to non-magical slashing damage
      • Age: Oldest Scout was born in AC 998
    • Champion (Third Evolution) – GM Created
      • Ability Score Increase: Charisma +2
      • Winged: These dragonborn have wings. They also gain 6″ of height.
      • Flight: You gain a Flying speed equal to your walking speed.
      • Age: Oldest champion was born in AC 1000
    • Sage (Fourth Evolution) – GM Created
      • Ability Score Increase: Intelligence +2
      • Innate Magic: You learn three cantrips, and one first level spell from the dragonlogist list (or appropriate elemental list). The first level spell can be cast once per short rest.
      • Age: Oldest sage was born in AC 1005
    • Avatar (Fifth Evolution) – GM Created
      • Ability Score Increase – Wisdom +2
      • Resitance: You have resistance to your element type.
      • Elementalist: You can channel your element into your attacks as a bonus action. This adds 1d6 element damage per character tier.
      • Age: Oldest avatar was born in AC 1010

Dragons

This is a restricted race – Needs GM Approval
  • Attributes – Dragon Traits
    • Ability Score Increase: +1 Con, +1 Cha
    • Speed: 30 ft walking
    • Darkvision: dim light within 60 ft is considered bright, and see in darkness as if it were dim light. Dim light shows only shades of grey.
    • Bite: You have a strength based bite attack that does 1d4 piercing damage.
    • Superior Awareness: Proficiency in Perception and Insight.
    • Nimble Claws: You can wield weapons in your front claws and use tools with them.
    • Specialised Armour: You can only wear armour designed for dragons.
    • Dragon Physiology: You are a quadruped and have the follow slots available for magical items: Armour, Belt, Chest, Eyes, Headband, Neck, Shoulders and Wrist. You can also use rings.
    • Languages: You know Common, Draconic and one other language of your choice.
    • Age: You do not age naturally, and don’t die of old age.
    • Size and Weight: You are about 3 ft tall, weigh about 60 pounds and are small in size.

Types of Dragons: FeykinLung, Truescale

  • Attributes – Dagon – Truescale Subrace Traits:
    • Ability Score Increase: Str +1, Wis +1
    • Wings: gain a fly speed of 30 ft
    • Deadly Tail: Tail attack, strength based, reach 10 ft, 1d8 Bludgeoning damage. At Large this increases to 2d8.
    • Wing Attack: Wing Attack, everything within 10 ft, must make a Dex save or take 2d6 Bludgeoning damage. DC is equal to 8 + Str + prof. Usable once per long rest.
    • Weapons Mastery: You are proficient with Unarmed and Natural Attacks.

I am a long term gamer, I run 6 RPG's a fortnight, host board game, card game and LANs each about once a quarter and have an addiction to buying more games. Games I am currently running are Pathfinder (1st and 2nd Edition) and Dungeons and Dragons (5th Edition).
