  • Magical Item – Uncommon – Mantle of the Ignoble Beast – 400 gp
    • Standard: While you wear this mantle, you have the that ability to change form into the form of a beast once per day, along with all their property they hold. This can be sustained only until the next morning and can not be activated in direct sunlight. The wearer takes on all the stats of the beast. Each mantle is dedicated to a single beast, usually the spirit guide of the tribe, or clan.
    • Attunement: If you are attuned to this, you can instead of turning into a beast, turn into a hybrid of the beast an a humanoid. A lot of people refer to this as a lycanthrope, but this is not. You are able to move at +10 ft to their normal speed without leaving trace in natural habitat, has a natural armour class of 12 (stacks with dex and magic) and gains natural attacks based on the animal totem.
    • Curse: Each time the powers of the cloak there is a chance that the spirit of the beast will come through and take over the wearer. Everytime you activate you need to make a Wisdom saving throw or be taken over by the beast. This DC is variable based on the phases of the moon. If you fail the roll you become the beast or hybrid you turned into, one the next full moon you make another check, if you fail then the mantle is destroyed it is no longer a curse. If you critically fail, you turn into a lycanthrope of the beast. Full Moon DC 20, Three Quarter Moon DC 18, Half-Moon DC 16, Quarter-Moon DC 14, New Moon DC 12.
    • Relic: If a human was wearing this item the DC is reduced by 2. If the mantle worn by a member of the Atruaghin Clans tribe, then they do not fall victim to the curse unless they roll a natural 1.

Example Campaign Items – Mantle of the Ignoble Beast

Mantle of the Ignoble Wolf (T035)
  • Magical Item – Uncommon – Mantle of the Ignoble Wolf – 400 gp
    • Standard: This rough and scruffy grey cloak is believed to the pelt of a powerful werewolf. It once was a totem of one of the Atruaghin clans and revered for its power and the battle prowess of Stenanthorp who took the pelt from this foul enemy Wernick the Beast. Supposedly the spirit of the werewolf is caught in limbo, as the soul was not released upon its death and is trying to rentre the physical realm. You can turn into a large wolf. The Atruaghin Clans will not attack the wearer first, though while in alternate form you prefer to kill things as your first option. This item will only function if it is provided a drop of blood every 24 hrs. While you wear this mantle, you have the that ability to change form into the form of a wolf once per day, along with all their property they hold. This can be sustained only until the next morning and can not be activated in direct sunlight. The wearer takes on all the stats of the wolf.
    • Attunement: You can turn into a werewolf hybrid attack with natural claws (2d4+2 slashing damage). Once attuned it is only powered if you sacrifice 1 hp (reduce your total hp) to power it for 24 hrs. If you start a long rest after this period it will return, but if you power it again in that time it will reduce your hp total further. You are able to move at +10 ft to their normal speed without leaving trace in natural habitat, has a natural armour class of 12 (stacks with dex and magic).
    • Curse: Each time the powers of the cloak there is a chance that the spirit of the beast will come through and take over the wearer. If you fail the roll you become the beast or hybrid you turned into, one the next full moon you make another check, if you fail then the mantle is destroyed it is no longer a curse. I am a long term gamer, I run 6 RPG's a fortnight, host board game, card game and LANs each about once a quarter and have an addiction to buying more games. Games I am currently running are Pathfinder (1st and 2nd Edition) and Dungeons and Dragons (5th Edition).
